VXDIAG Porsche Piwis3 Developer Mode shell config. update tips

The Developer Mode in Porsche Piwis 3 is not available when you update the shell, coz you lose the menu diagnostics configuration to switch between regular and developer mode,
Problem solved if you copy the old file com.porsche.piwis.Shell.exe.config

Here is how to update the shell config. and get the diagnostic configuration boxes back, on the system tab.

After a successful update from 37.250.20 you will loose the two above mentioned boxes from the System tab.
If you did not loose them, then the [PIDT] diagnostic software did not update completely.
So it’s a good thing to loose it !

Go to C:\PiwisApps\Shel\ and carefuly edit with notepad   this file –> com.porsche.piwis.Shell.exe.config

after the update the PIDT section shows up in green, after U edit it it will be blue.

First picture shows, red underlined, 2 places, beginning and the end of the green section, what to remove.
On top [Line 568 on mine] U delete  these four symbols       !–<     on the bottom [line 603 on mine] U delete these 3 symbols   –>
Then U save the config file.
Restart the PC and your Diagnostic config box for 991,981,970 and Diagnostic config for other models RE-APPEAR.

rm996 has the solution how get the developer functionality back up and running, !!! PM him.

Developer mode is a special Piwis program that allow a lot of advanced coding normally reserved only to Factory.

With this function you will have a tool that can do more than software of official Porsche Dealer.
For example, you can reprogram all ECUs completely offline.

How to use Piwis Developer Mode:

Install winrar and winhex on your computer.

-1-locate the file c:\program files\porsche\PIDT_P_MIG_DLSS3\pidt\plugins\de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar and copy it on your desktop in order to modify it.

Open it with winrar,in the wirar windows locate the file

\de\dsa\pidt\datatypes\utils\Helper$1.class and drag it on your destop , delete it from the archive after the copy, keep the winrar window open.

Open Helper$1.class on your desktop with winhex and goto offset E81, replace 9A by A7 and save.

Drag back the save file on the winrar windows still open and click OK.Close winrar

Copy the new file de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar you just made in

c:\program files\porsche\PIDT_P_MIG_DLSS3\pidt\plugins, overwrite it.

copy the file aftersales.sig on your desktop and rename it development.sig.Copy this file back in the folder

Do exactly the same method given above with the folder c:\program files\porsche\PIDT_P_MIG_DLSS3 with its own files.

To transform it in developer :

This method to switch between regular and developer works only with my backup and will not work anymore after

an update.

2. SCN coding importance
The move to SCN coding was *very* important. There are too many configuration items in every ECU now to have someone set options by hand whenever an ECU is changed, or to understand how changes on one device have to be done on other devices. These cars are really very very complex, and unlike your laptop, if something goes wrong can result in fatalities.

There are software dependancies between different ECUs, and actually loading software into ECUs is now needed regularly – and thus so is up-to-date diagnosis equipment and up-to-date firmware disks too. A simple example is the Audio system. If you update the firmware in the COMAND unit the firmware in every other MOST device needs also to be compatible (if you want it to work reliably) and thus they all need firmware updates. If you change one component then all components need to be updated to be properly compatible.

The latest equipment even now uses ethernet to load firmware into some ECUs (so it takes 20 minutes not 20 hours).

Without SCN coding it would take considerably longer to change any control unit, would result in mistaken configurations, and thus the cost of repair (or re-repair) would go up and up as systems got more complicated. SCN coding basically allows the correct configuration to be loaded into the car.

Imagine what could/would happen if you had to “hand code” the airbag controller after replacing it ? Would you trust all of your airbags to work after the local mechanic had to set all the options correctly ? I certainly would not.

Your comment that “The capital cost of the latest version, plus the monthly subscription, means it is beyond the reach of many smaller independent garages” is just wrong.

If your garage has the skills to deal with the technology (and i’d argue that if they don’t they shouldn’t be doing complex things with the newest vehicles), then it is completely affordable.

If you want to work on older cars, then most independents seem to use a clone machine and use it for limited things.

The EU competition commissioner has previously taken a good look at this market and enforced rules that mean diagnosis equipment (for newer vehicles) is available at sensible prices. This is not true in the rest of the world. Mercedes diagnosis systems in USA are more expensive, and in the far east (and I think Australia) are not available at all to independents.

Sorry to be so contradictory, and in summary, but without SCN coding there would be mis-configurations and un-reliability – possibly dangerous to life – occurring quite regularly. And if you are going to need to work on newer cars, there are very affordable Xentry diagnostics systems – you just need to talk to Mercedes.

2.“No Connection” error solved

Here is the detail explanation of GM MDI Wifi multiple diagnostic system “no connection” error and solution.

Problem:

When get the GM MDI tool connected with computer and plugged into car’s DLC OBD port, only two of the indicator light flashed while the other two are off. And then the GM MDI software system displayed “no connection” error message. See Fig.1 and Fig. 2.

Possible reason:
Improper operation procedure leads to the communication failure.

Solution:

Quit the GM MDI software and disconnect the GM MDI main unit
Open MDI Manager to check the driver
Open “Network setup” to check the network condition
If your MDI Manager shows a connection with your MDI and says software is compatible with pc, it is OK.
Reconnect the MDI device and load software again.

Follow the correction connection procedure and settings:

USB connection:

Once install and run the MDI manager, power up the MDI tester using the A/C 12-volt adapter. Then connect it to your computer with via USB cable.  The MDI appears in the application’s Explorer window where all the MDI units detected by your PC.

 

WIFI wireless connection:

1) Click MDI_Manager icon to start the MDI Manager software
2) Connect MDI with PC using USB cable
3) Power on the MDI by plugging in the A/C 12-volt adapter
4) Select and Connect to your MDI in the MDI Manager software MDI Explorer tab.
5) Select “Network Setup”
6) Select “Wireless” tab.
7) Select “Enable Wireless Interface check box in the Interface Control box to enable the interface. Once you enable the interface, the IP Address Configuration box and the Apply and Cancel buttons become active.
8) Select Obtain an IP address automatically if your LAN automatically assigns IP addresses. Otherwise enter the assigned IP Address and Subnet mask.
9) Select “Access Point” to start wireless access configuration.
10) If you are not within range of the access point you want to use, or the access point is not broadcasting its SSID, select the Enter Network Name [SSID]: radio button and type the network name.
11) If you are within range of your wireless access point, choose the Select from available network list radio button and then select Refresh to cause the MDI to search for wireless network signals. The detected networks are displayed in the Network Name box.
12) Select Configure after you have entered the network name
13) Enter the security setting that are required by your network, then select Next.
14) Select Yes to re-configure your MDI, or if you want to start over select No.
15) Select OK.
16) Choose the Properties tab to verify that the MDI is configured correctly.
17) Write down previous settings you did for future reference.

NOTE:

Installing the MDI Manager software installs certain utilities that are required for your TIS2Web programs to use the MDI. But, it is not necessary to start the MDI Manager software before using TIS2Web programs.

A: Yes, Kess V2 can not do EDC17 at present. It can do EDC16 well, but when you do it, you need to connect the Anti-mediation lock module to read and write data for vehicles. Becuase new style vihicles have new encrypted ways.

A: After reading the software, kess v2 will automatically calibrate checksums. KESS V2 doesn’t work with truck, because the truck voltage is too high and KESS V2 will be burnt out.

A: If your car is OBD diagnostic socket, just plug the OBD cable into the car; if your car is not OBD diagnostic socket, after you select the ECU type in the Best obd2 scanner KESS V2 software, the diagram will appear and show you how to connect.

Dimsport Trasdata issue solved by Ktag KTM100 7.020

Last week, I did a test on Trasdata with my China clone KTAG KTM100, for I got info that Trasdata is compatible with K-Tag firmware v7.020- supports the same cars/ecus but shows how many tokens you have left and can supposedly be used with internet connection (ksuite cannot).

I downloaded Dimsport Trasdata software on the web:Dimsport Trasdata.zip

But KTAG ecu tuning master has no tokens showing on trasdata and when switch back to ktag.ept when opening ksuite it says “update not complete connect tool to internet to complete update”? I have noticed though on the old laptop when you open trasdata it has pop up message saying “there is update available”, possibly installing today update automatically and block ktag

Then problem solved! Trasdata is automatically downloading an update now and blocking unit so be careful! I had to flash ktag.ept back, put 6.070 update files in 2.08 update folder and put 6.070 sd files on a NEW sd card.

Unluckily, connection damaged the KTAG V7.020! A friend in mhhauto said something about this, that “you will have to switch back to ktag.ept and put new sd card in with sd files on to fix, when installing this now trasdata automatically updates to the latest version, if you had installed it before the update was released then you just receive a message asking to update when starting trasdata.”

Having read lots of post on forums to find a way around this at present for new installations, and finally, the problem is resolved by taking a version of Chinese KTM100 FW 7.003 Auto ECU Programmer, installing and replacing Trasdata.exe; ChksumDll.dll; TrsdtDLL.dll from the download software.
Infoplugins.dat file I left by Chinese because the reserves more info from Chinese, you have to try … And everything works fine.
Thar is,

First, install KTM 100 from China, then they replace files from the download zip, all as described by in but no update !!!
(((Copy Trasdata.exe from archive to “Program Files / Dimsport / Trasdata”. CopyFolder “Settings” to “Program Data / Dimsport“. Copy files from folder system32 to “Windows / System32)))
Next, use the program online.
Because of an error:
“K-Tag work OK.I try VAG edc17cp20 i have same error (Crp file not found ). K-tag read and write .”

The correct Protocol of KTM100 HW 7.020 are located in “Program Data / Dimsport / pack / ntdpack.zip” they should upgrade to SD card, einetlich to 7003

How FVDI and AVDI Commander read and write data from MED17 EDC17?

Please pay attention before you use FVDI and AVDI Commander :
1. Only FVDI and AVDI Commander can read and write data from MED17 EDC17 engine control unit and calculate 6 digit security byte.
2. New VW Magotan, Passat, CC engine type is MED17.5.XX . It is impossible to read out these models’ 7 digit security byte by only reading out data from comfort module, then it’s impossible to make new keys when all key lost and module programming.
3. VAG 18.0 or Newer version of FVDI commander can get 6-digit security byte and 5 digit login password by reading the data from MEDC 17 and get 7 digit security byte by reading data from comfort modules.
4. About connections, you have to prepare these tools:
PC, FVDI /AVDI, USB Cable, MEDC17 adapter, dongle, welding iron , solders , several 1K ohm resisters and 12V DC power supply.

Now we can begin to work:
1. From Picture 1 shows connections between AVDI FVDI ABRITES Commander , PC , Dongle , MEDC 17 adapter. Your PC has to

connect with network.

2. Step by Step to operate
Step 1: Disassemble MEDC17 ECU, and then uncover it;
Step 2: Connect MEDC17 ECU under instructions;
Step 3. Connect FVDI with PC, Open VAG V21 and select special functions and select ” EDC17/MED17 Engine Control Unit”. It

is shown as Picture 2.

3. Select correct MCU type and click ” CONNECT ” as Picture 3.

4. Read what you want to read.

5. Assemble MEDC17 ECU and install it to vehicle.

How to correct Benz W221 odometer with FVDI ABRITES Commander

Here is the detail instruction on odometer correction for Mercedes Benz S-class (W221) and CL(W216) vehicle models with OBDⅡFVDI ABRITES Commander for Mercedes Benz diagnosis.

Backup important files

Open Special Function “CGW (ZGW) Explorer” to read the EEPROM and the flash memories of Central Gateway (CGW) control.  Back up EEPROM and the flash dumps as files in your hardware.

FVDI ABRITES will automatically back up EEPROM and the flash memories file when it reads them. The backup files should be installed on C:/Program Files/ABRITES software for IDXXXXXX/Mercedes.

Select vehicle model, like S-class W221

Select EEPROM, click Read EEPROM and save it to a file after EEPROM has been read.

Select Flash and click Read Flash and save it to a file after FLASH has been read.

2.Modify ASSYST and ASSYST PLUS service history records
Open Special Function “ASSYST PLUS”. Select the ZGW type “W221”. Click “Get Current” button to see the internal data that is stored inside ASSYST PLUS module.

Click “ASSYST PLUS Service Memory” to view different service history. Enter “Main Odometer”, “Operating Time (Days)” and “Number of Oil Changes” to alter all this information.  Click “Yes” when FVDI ABRITES program asks to set the information for the different service history records. Enter detail for each record.
For example: If your vehicle has 3 records, you need to enter the details for 3 service intervals. The values for the day cycle counter should be entered in an increasing way. Here is the record example. You can verify them as you wish.

3.Change the main Odometer in Dashboard, EZS & CGW
Next you should change the odometer in Instrument Cluster as well as in EZS and CGW module.
Open “Odometer Correction” special function and select vehicle as S-class W221. Then click “Get Odometer” button.

Select “Set Odometer” to load EEPROM and Flash dumps
NOTE: Make sure the ignition is ON when click “Set Odometer” button.

3.Change the odometer in other devices
Select Electronic Parking Brake/Regenerative Braking System to change the odometer in this module.

Select Tire Pressure Monitor in FVID ABRITES menu to change the odometer id this module.

You can open the “Actual Values” windows and check the stored Messages and Activation values. If you want to change these values, click Activation Tests button. Three options are available, click “Start Test” button after choose one.

Select Vehicle Power Supply Control Module and click the “Activator tests” button from the drop-down box. Then open the Actual Values windows and check the displayed odometer values.

Select Electrical Seat Adjustment Driver and click “Activator tests” button. Then click “Output Tests” button from drop-down box to check the displayed odometer values. If you see the value that unavailable, ignore it. .

5.Clear DTCs
Erase all error codes that may have been stored in ECU control modules
NOTE: Leave only the setting “CAN UDS” and “CAN KWP 2000” protocols setting when clearing error codes which will make the procedure faster.
