Tech 2 Custom Update Procedure

To perform a custom Tech 2 Scanner update to backdate the scan tool or install different language software:
1.  Connect the scan tool to the PC using the RS-232 cable (refer to the illustration in Figure 1).

2.  Power up the scan tool using the AC power supply that came with the tool (refer to Figure 2).

3.  At the PC, launch TIS.

4.  From the TIS main screen, select Software Download.

5.  At the “Select Diagnostic Tool for Download” screen, select car diagnostic scanner Tech 2 and “Custom” (Figure 3) to allow backdating or installing of non-NAO software on the scan tool. After confirming the selection,select Next. A message will appear indicating the PC is reading the contents of the diagnostic tool.

6.  A “Select the Applications” screen (Figure 4) appears. The left side of the screen lists software release numbers. Select the “+” sign to see the list of languages for each release (5).

7.  Select the desired software version and language either by double-clicking on it or by highlighting the desired language file; then click Select in the middle of the screen. The selected software will appear in the right side of the screen (Figure 6). Click on the tabs to compare the current and selected scan tool software. Click Download to proceed.

8.  A “Performing the Software Download” screen appears (Figure 7) to track the download status.

Tech 2 Care and Cleaning

After using the Tech 2, a few simple steps will insure that you get the most life out of this diagnostic tool.

NOTICE
Do not spray or pour cleaner anywhere on the Tech2 Scan Tool. If the Tech 2 should become dirty, clean it with a mild detergent or hand soap. Avoid using harsh solvents such as petroleum-based cleaning agents:acetone, benzene, trichlorethylene, etc. Harsh solvents can etch Tech 2 plastic surfaces.Although the Tech 2 is water resistant it is not waterproof, so be sure to thoroughly dry off the Tech 2 prior to usage and/or storage.

Maintenance of the Tech 2 requires periodic inspection and cleaning of:
*  The display window
* The keypad
*  The cable assemblies and connectors
Make sure the Auto Scanner Tool Tech 2 is not connected to a vehicle or other power source and follow the cleaning procedures detailed below

Cleaning the Display
The display collects dust and grime during normal use. Occasionally wipe the screen with a clean, soft,static-free cloth. Remove stubborn stains by applying a non-abrasive glass cleaner to a soft cloth and wipe cloth across display area.

Cleaning the Keypad
Clean the keypad with a non-abrasive cleaner. Apply a small amount of cleaner on a soft cloth and wipe
cloth across keypad area.

Maintaining the Cable Assemblies and Connectors
Inspect cable assemblies during connection and disconnection to components. Watch for any cuts or abrasions along the cables. Check the connectors and connector pins for grease, dirt and corrosion. If contaminants are present, remove them with a mild soap solution.

Storing the Tech 2
*  Store the Tech 2 away from solvents and other liquids. It is NOT moisture proof.
*  Store the Tech 2 away from direct sunlight. Ultraviolet and infrared light will darken the display.
*  Store the Tech 2 in its plastic case. Otherwise, the high-impact plastic cover could become scratched

Getting Started
This section covers all Tech 2 vehicle applications. Therefore, some of the information provided may not be required for individual applications.

The Tech 2 contains two serial communication ports: the RS-232 and the RS-485. Use the RS-232 port for downloading data from another computer to the Tech 2. The RS-485 port is currently not used. The OBD2 Scanner Tech 2 also contains two PCMCIA ports, a power jack connector, and a Vehicle Communications Interface (VCI) connector. Third, how to use KESS 5.017 or KTAG 7.020 to Read/Write Land Rover ECU Data

For KESS V2 5.017 users:you can program directly through the OBD port of the vehicle, while with Ktag you need to take apart the ECU and open it, after you can make the read/write operation.

For KTAG 7.020 users: you need to disassemble from the car and open and this is the case for all the ECU (most Land Rover ECUs) that need to be programmed with Jtag, BDM and Boot protocols,but it is not a hard job,you can buy a LED BDM Frame together to simple your job.

Recommendation:

1.Remove the ECU from the vehicle;
2.Open the ECU, taking care in not damaging the parts inside;
3.Reconnect the ECU to the vehicle and start the engine, in order to make sure that it is still working and has not been damaged in the opening;
4.Remove again the ECU from the vehicle;
5.Select the right plug-in;
6.Always make a backup copy of the ECU before Reading and / or Writing.

Depending on your computer hardware, you could install XP and your app in a Virtual Machine (VM) from Windows 7. Once installed and configured, you would boot your computer like normal and start XP in a window.

VMware makes Virtual Machine software called Workstation v10. They have a trial, but expect money at some point. The second best option for VM software is called VirtualBox from Sun. It is free!
You would just need a compatible computer, a copy of Windows XP and time to learn the ropes and get your XP Virtual Machine (VM) up and running. Learning how to use it is a one-time thing and at that point you’ll be familiar with VM software in general. That is a huge benefit to have as a computer user.

At that point you would meet the requirements of the car diagnostic scanner GM Tech 2 software and would install TIS2000 within the VM and use the virtual com/serial port to connect to your computer serial port (or USB).

You will need the Tech 2 and Saab 32MB card (specify when buying clone) listed in the link above. Those two alone should be able to read DTCs, I believe. To get security access and make changes via Tech 2, you will need an older Windows?XP laptop with built in serial port – a newer computer running a virtual machine program & serial to usb adapter should also work – and the Tis2000/GlobalTIS software.

Personal opinion: The Tech 2 at obd2tool.com in the link you posted is priced a bit higher than most ($349 vs $319). You might want to read back a few pages in this thread for some links to other sellers with better pricing and more sales.

My Tech 2 Scanner hq clone is paid for $319. It is with with a 32MB card and TIS2000 software CD.

It changes the ccc option in module programming to a different list with more options and also appeared to give me icons to read and write dumps,
But I ran out of time to play more and see what options did, I did try to disable my seat belt off warning buzzer but it failed to work, Other peoples input would be nice once you test it…

As for getting nothing to appear in special function through VCM2 IDS, i had two option in there, read config file and modify, Also for me the tool box module programming, 3rd option down had changed to allow what i would normally alter within ccc as well as a as built option which i do not normally see on this year of car, It had speed items for one listed, were as this is found on later fords than mine in the pcm on first page.

Q: I bought one GM TECH2 and the TIS2000 software can’t be installed and no identification, what’s the problem?
A: If the TIS2000 you are trying to install is contained in the GM TECH2 software, then it is useless to install TIS2000 software.
To program electronic control unit, I advice you buy an extra TIS2000 to work with GM tech2.

Q: After receiving GM TECH2, I got some errors.
A: If it is Blue screen, just replace the Blue Screen Chip. If it is not the problem of Blue screen, please send us the self-test report to
check where the problem is; have no idea on how to operate self test? Refer the self-test manual at GM TECH2 “technical support /service”.

Q: GM TECH2 one button doesn’t work how to fix?
A: If you have new version GM tech2, there are two ways to solve: 1) we send you a new button to replace; 2) please send back to repair.
If you have old version GM tech2 installed with the newest software, the button maybe won’t work.

Q: When I use Tech2 Scan Tool for the second times, the tool starts to smoke, and my car voltage become 14V from 12V, what’s the matter?
A: Please follow the correct operation steps: before diagnosing, turn on the ignition and then connect the GM TECH2 with the car,
when the car starts you’d better test the voltage, because during this process a part of cars’ voltage will reach up to 24V or more,
